Checking in on Will Yun Lee

Will Yun Lee plays Takashi, a Japanese man dealing with lost memories in the new film, Where the Road Meets the Sun.  The movie, which follows the intersecting lives of four men living in Los Angeles, premieres this Saturday at the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival.  Watch the Where the Road Meets the Sun trailer here.

Moon Geun Young's plastic surgery

Korea's "little sister" Moon Geun Young is sporting a new nose and homegirl ain't playing!  I used to wonder how the actress would transition into adult roles with her bulbous nose and prominent ears.  These traits give her unique character, but aren't common among Korea's femme fetales.

Moon Geun Young's tip and nostrils have been remarkably reduced and reshaped but still look natural and fit the proportions of her face.  Moon Geun Young's surgeon did a nice job. If there's a sad part, it's that she no longer looks like the girl in Tale of Two Sisters or Autumn in my Heart

Think Bo Duke without the blonde hair, muscle car, or fat uncle Jesse

Ajumma's been reading Born This Way blog by LGBT adults sharing photos and stories on how they felt growing up gay or transgender. The site also celebrates their favorite hobbies, television shows, and first same-sex crushes growing up.  (I notice an unsual number of folks loved John Schneider from Dukes of Hazzard as kids.)  Though not a same-sex crush, I can say my heart belonged to actor River Phoenix thoughout my adolescent years, or at least the character he played in Stand By Me. River's role in Stand By Me kills me to this day; the kid from the wrong side of the tracks, intelligent yet tough, sensitive and vulnerable.

About a half-year after River Phoenix's passing, Esquire featured an article on how those who knew him were dealing with his death from drug use in 1993. Even eighteen years later it's an interesting read on a complex person.

Crack open that cupcake

I was searching for online images of pinatas sold at small Mexican grocers resembling popular children's characters like Dora, Spiderman and Spongebob Squarepants. These pinatas are amusing (and freaky) because their proportions are usually way off, like Dora with a pinhead and legs 3 feet long. Or Spiderman with stumps for arms, or Spongebob shaped like a rectangle wearing no pants. Instead I found these cupcake pinatas which look awesome and way too nice to beat to a pulp. pinatas for sale

Succulent envy

One cool thing about Southern California is the variety of plant life.  One of my favorites is potted succulents. I spotted these succulents growing in Costa Mesa.

Bale back in China

Christian Bale is in China filming a period piece directed by Zhang Yimou.  He plays a priest helping Chinese women during the Japan's occupation of China.  The last time we saw Bale acting on the mainland he starred in Steven Spielberg's 1987 drama, Empire of the Sun.  Good karma.  Pic from Tianjinwe

Burt Reynolds and I have the same taste in architecture

The other day I watched Burt Reynolds in the Nascar comedy Stroker Ace and found him mildly attractive.  I think this is a somewhat disturbing sign of me getting older.  I've also found myself appreciating Tom Petty's music lately.  Either I'm aging or my inner redneck is starting to show.

Speaking of Burt Reynolds, his Beverly Hills midcentury home is on the market for $10,900,000. The four bedroom, four bath property was constructed in 1967 and promises incredible views.  I'd like to imagine it's a steel beam home ala Raphael Soriano. Say what you will about Burt Reynolds, the man has good taste in architecture. I just wish his agent included photos of the kitchen.  See the Redfin listing here.

Spring is coming, I can feel it!

Embrace Daewon's round face

Let me pat the back of whoever decided to give pro skateboarder Daewon Song his own Tech Deck doll.  It's not everyday that you see a Korean American doll on store shelves.  Designers got Daewon's cap and nose right, but they missed the mark on his distinctive round face.  Plus the doll's eyes are too big.  There, I said it.

Daewon's doll looks more like Daniel Henney to me.

Another guy who looks like a hot chick (according to my husband)

I'm always on the hunt for photos to bring to my stylist to show her exactly what I want my hair to look like.  So far I've presented pics of Jennifer Aniston's and Jun Ji Hyun's straight locks, and the bangs of Ashley Olson.  Somehow my stylist prevented herself from laughing me out of the salon each time.

I have seen the light in the form of a dog owner on Cesar Milan's The Dog Whisperer! During the first season, Cesar visited Nelson Chang who struggled with his uruly chihuahua named Paris. Ninety-nine episodes later Cesar revisited Paris (who was making strides) and Nelson. At this time Nelson (aka "Onch") had an awesome black bob and a shock of metalic red bangs. I LIKE!

Happy April 1st!

Ken Doll has bad hair days, too

Ken is finally letting his hair down! Within a month out of the box I predict his shag will transform into a blonde nylon 'fro.

Hello, Palm Springs!

This Ken hates it when old ladies on the cruise ship pinch his butt.
