When White Guys Say Dumb Things

LAW & ORDER creator DICK WOLF refused to shake MATTHEW PERRY's hand at a benefit on Saturday (13Oct07), after the former "Friends" star made an offensive joke about Native Americans.Perry was hosting The Lili Claire Foundation fundraiser in Los Angeles when he revealed he once attended an event honouring Native Americans, joking organisers weren't able to find a famous Indian host.Flags of Our Fathers star Adam Beach, a member of the Salteaux Indian tribe, looked visibly upset and when he later shared the stage with his pal Wolf, the TV mogul told the audience, "I don't know where Matt is, but here is your American Indian."

What?! That's TWO stupid things said by clueless white guys. Dick Wolf's comments are almost more insensitive. "Here is your American Indian." At least Matthew was joking. I'm surprised NBC doesn't require Adam Beach to wear a sign that reads "American Indian" to all their promos.

Corey Haim in "Stand By Me"?

Recently '80s actor Corey Haim noted that he was offered River Phoenix's part as Chris Chambers in the 1986 movie, "Stand By Me." He chose, instead, to play the title character in the drama, "Lucas." My mind is boggled at what might have been! That would have meant the two Coreys in "Stand By Me, " River Phoenix would have been robbed of the role of a lifetime, and who would have played geeky but loveable Lucas? My guess is that Patrick Dempsey would have landed the part.

Dominican Lou on "Good Morning Bronx"

There is a god. Dominican Lou is now on! And I have to admit, Jennifer Lopez is pretty good in this skit.

Clones Vol. 2: Daniel Henney & Edison Chen

Seeing double? American Daniel Henney (top, age 28) has been modeling and doing commericals in the Far East for a few years, but shot to stardom in 2005 as the doctor-boyfriend in the Korean drama, "My Name is Kim Sam Soon." Most recently Daniel starred as a Korean adoptee who finds that his birth father is on death row in the feature film, "My Father."

Canuck Edison Chen (bottom, age 27) is a fixture on the Hong Kong movie scene, who also models, sings, and is a founder of the unfortunately named HK streetwear company CLOT. Last year American audiences saw Edison in the horror film, "Grudge 2."

What more do these two fellows share in common? Both have biracial backgrounds; Daniel is half Korean-half white and Edison is half Chinese-half Macanese.

More Clones here!

Christian Bale @ London Premiere

Ajumma recently told a friend that she's over Christian Bale. Well, old habits die hard. So here are Christian Bale and his wife Sibi at a recent appearance in London for the premiere of "I'm Not There." As usual, the couple both dressed in black. To mix things up a bit, this time Christian showed up in tired old tennis shoes. Is it me, or are the young chaps more dressed up than the mega-million movie star?

Is it Wrong That This Photo Makes Me Smile?

Daniel Dae Kim got arrested in Hawai'i, this week, for driving under the influence. Apparently he was driving under the influence of the BAD HAIR FAIRY.

I Call This One "Blue Steel"

For about a year I've been looking at Wentworth Miller and thinking, 'Damn, he's doing a good Blue Steel.' I wonder whether Ben Stiller thinks the same thing.

Sharon Stone, You Useless Slag

Sharon Stone, you talentless hack, there is a big mack truck cruising down Pacific Coast Highway with your name on it, baby.

Southern California Animal Evacuations

Godspeed to all individuals helping animals evacuate from areas struck by wildfires across Southern California! It's extremely difficult to transport and house large animals such as horses, cows, and barnyard animals. Thank you for those who have volunteered in transporting and sheltering small animals, as well, such as dog and rabbit rescuers. Let us learn from Katrina and never again allow our pets to be left behind in times of evacuation.

Wonbin, is that you?

I've always thought Kimura Takuya of SMAP resembled Korea's megastar, Wonbin. Well, today it took a second look for me to tell that the top photo was Kimura kun and NOT Wonbin! What is the big giveaway? Kimura kun's teeth.

Shia LeBeouf: My new favorite actor

Christian Bale in "I'm Not There"

Christian Bale stars as singer, Bob Dylan, in the new film biopic, "I'm Not There." I'm getting more of a Johnny Cash vibe from Bale, than a Bob Dylan one. What do you think? I'm waiting for Bale to star in a film with Angelina Jolie and run off with her to Africa. You know it's coming!

Clones Vol. 1: Jared Leto & Zac Efron

They don't come much prettier than Zac and Jared. Women everywhere (Ajumma, included) envy the guys' perfect eyebrows and baby blues. Do you think Zac is headed the way of Jared and will soon be sporting smokey eyeliner and stubble?

John Cho at 2007 Pusan Film Festival

Look who was invited to Pusan's annual film festival, this month! I wonder for which movie John is best known in Korea. Standing alongside John is the Japanese actor from "Chakushin Ari, " an Asian version of Orlando Bloom, Ms. Im Soo-jung (sporting the "in" hairstyle of the moment in Korea), some bland looking Asian actress, and Jo In-Sung.

Trivia for the day: John Cho and Kal Penn have said that in reality, John is more wild like Kumar, and Kal more reserved like Harold's character in "Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle."

Verdict: The Office Season 4 Sucks

Fans of The Office on unanimously agree that season 4 just plain sucks. By this time last season, Michael had outted Oscar, Diwali was in full swing, and Jim was dealing with Karen's bad weave. Today, Ajumma's own coworker described Jim as adorable. Ajumma thinks Jim is a dud and that Pam could do much better. If next week's episode is as dull as the others, loyalties will be transferred to "Pushing Daisies."

Boba Time

Ajumma used to have at least a dozen boba cafes within a 10 mile radius of her house. She now lives an hour away from the nearest boba establishment. Oh, cruel world!

"Vietnamese are Koreans on weed."

Dr. Ken chats it up about Koreans and Vietnamese.

Adam Beach Joins Law & Order: SVU

NBC is the becoming the new United Nations! First Will Yun Lee on "Bionic Woman" and now Adam Beach on "Law & Order: SVU"? Beach joins the cast as Detective Chester Lake, Ice-T's new partner in the unit, this season.

You might still be trying to burn the image of Adam Beach wearing that cheap-ass wig at the end of "Smoke Signals" from your mind. Have any of you noticed how many roles he's gotten since cutting long beautiful hair?

Looks Better Than What I Had for Lunch

Who doesn't love miniatures and noodles? How ideal for us all that someone created these tiny wind up Japanese noodle bowls!

You Mean He's Still Acting?

Can you name one movie in which Will Yun Lee has starred? Have you actually seen any of his movies? Nope, me either. It turns out Will stars in NBC's new hot mess, "Bionic Woman." I turned that show off within 3 minutes of it debuting. The only good thing seemed to be Miguel Ferrer's gravely voice! Will needs to jump on the Justin Lin bandwagon STAT.

Film Depicts Vietnamese Boat People

"Journey from the Fall" is an independent film that follows a family feeling from South Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in April of 1975. Directed by Vietnamese American filmaker, Ham Tran, the movie sold out in theaters in Little Saigon, CA, Washington D.C. and San Jose.

Due out on DVD in October 2007. Visit the official website.

Ajumma's Black (and Blue) List

I'm irritated by people who wear fur. I'm also bugged by companies that give furs to celebrities for free. It's the year 2007, and there is no excuse for animals to be slaughtered in the name of fashion. Here is a growing list of celebrities that deserve to be hung by their eyelids for wearing, promoting, and/or using fur in their clothing lines:
13. Celine Dion
12. Sharon Stone (does she even qualify as a celebrity?)
11. Goldie Hawn
10. Sarah Jessica Parker
9. Zhang Ziyi
8. Angelina Jolie (too busy adopting kids & pimping Shiseido to think about animal rights)
7. Eva Mendes (She now supposedly poses for PETA. What gives?!)
6. Rihanna (I'm sad, because I liked you, girl!)
5. Kid Rock
4. Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen
3. Puff Daddy/P. Diddy/Sean John/the guy who butchered "Every Breath You Take"
2. Beyonce Knowles
1. J. Ho

Book of the Month

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is young adult book by Sherman Alexie, released in September 2007. Based on Alexie's own experiences about leaving his reservation to attend a school, this book made Ajumma laugh out loud and cry.

Ajumma recently saw Alexie at an appearance in her hometown and felt he was refreshing, hilarious, and candid even after years of being on the book circuit.

Have You Seen a Korean Guy Around Here?

Ajumma and John Cho go together like a tight perm and bow legs. Holla! Harold and Kumar are back.

Gore 1, Haters 0

Congrats to former Vice President Al Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for winning the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, last week. You go, Al! The world's polar bears, lowland gorillas, and future generations thank you for your hard work.

You Offend Me. You Offend My Family.

Justin Lin has a new film called, "Finishing the Game," due in theaters October 2007. This mockumentry follows crews as they finish Bruce Lee's "Game of Death." Bell bottoms! Ugly cars! Sung Kang as Cole Kim? That's reason enough to watch it. Visit FTG's official website

Ajumma's Pad Launch Party

Welcome to Ajumma's pad. Grab a boba tea and stay a while!
